Khao Sok Lake, nestled in the heart of Thailand, offers an unforgettable full-day trip from Khao Sok village. Although the trip might seem a bit pricey compared to other Thai adventures, the experience is worth every penny. The journey includes a short trek, a visit to the caves, and breathtaking views. However, a significant portion of the day is spent at a quaint floating restaurant for lunch and relaxation in the afternoon. The restaurant also offers free kayaking for those who wish to explore the lake at their own pace.The Khao Sok Lake trip is not for the faint-hearted. The hard hike is a challenge, especially for those who are not regular hikers. But the reward is the stunning views that make the effort worthwhile. The guides are known for their vibrant personalities and humor, adding a unique touch to the trip. The early morning is the best time to spot monkeys. The food might seem a bit bland for those accustomed to Thai cuisine, but it is designed to cater to Western tastes. After a day of hiking and wildlife spotting, the food is a welcome respite.
The accommodation at Khao Sok Lake is basic, with bamboo and grass structures that offer a window for ventilation. The bungalows are fixed to the plank-dock walkways, which means that any movement on the pathways can be felt inside. The toilet is a community-shared structure located centrally in the facility. Despite these rustic conditions, the experience is worth it for the stunning natural beauty that surrounds Ratchaprapha Lake.
The overnight tour to Khao Sok Lake is a must-do for nature lovers. The tour includes an easy hike through the wildlife reserve, a short trip on a bamboo raft to a beautiful cave, and an evening boat safari. The lucky ones might even spot wild elephants and monkeys. The cabins offer swimming and kayak rentals. The private guides are knowledgeable and go out of their way to ensure that guests have an enjoyable stay.
The overnight trip also includes a visit to a water cave, which is a unique experience. The walk from the boat to the cave is about 2km, partially through the river. The lake can also be explored on Longtail boats, which is a fun experience, although it can get a bit wet when the wind blows.
