The journey to the top of the Pha Jun Jaras Viewpoint is not for the faint-hearted. It's a challenging climb, with a steep ascent of 500 meters. The path is lined with slippery stones concreted into the steps, making it a bit of a struggle for those not wearing the right footwear. Flip flops or sliders, while perfect for a day out on a boat, are not the best choice for this climb. A good pair of trainers is highly recommended for those who wish to take on this challenge.Despite the difficulty, many find the climb to be a rewarding experience. The journey to the top is punctuated by several viewing platforms, each offering a chance to rest and take in the breathtaking views. These platforms also serve as a reminder of the reward that awaits at the top, encouraging climbers to press on.
The final destination, the Pha Jun Jaras Viewpoint, is a sight to behold. After a strenuous 30-minute walk, climbers are rewarded with an incredible view that makes the sweat and effort worthwhile. From the top, one can see the expansive beauty of the surrounding area, with the beach just a 25-minute descent away. A rope serves as a handrail along the walk, providing much-needed support for tired legs.
The climb is not just about the destination, but also the journey. The 500-meter ascent can be quite exhausting, especially in high temperatures. Therefore, it's advisable to bring a small bottle of water to stay hydrated. And of course, don't forget to bring a camera to capture the stunning views.
The Pha Jun Jaras Viewpoint is also a popular stop for the Ang Thong National Marine Park tour. The viewpoint is divided into five levels, with level five being the highest. Depending on one's fitness level and the number of photo stops, reaching the top can take anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. The stairs are reasonably big, making the climb tourist-friendly. The view from the top is truly spectacular and well worth the effort.
The viewpoint offers extensive views of the Marine Park islands, making the climb well worth it. It's part of the day tours offered by several tour companies from Samui. The viewpoint is less crowded in September and October, when the weather can still be pleasant. However, it's closed during November and December or when the seas are too rough for travel. The journey to the viewpoint, which is roughly two hours from Samui, is part of the tours to other islands on the trip. The Marine Park is a whole different world, well worth exploring as part of your trip to the Gulf Islands.
