About Thung Yee Pheng Mangrove Forest

The Thung Yee Pheng Mangrove Forest in Koh Lanta, Thailand, is a destination that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and adventure. It's a place where one can book a morning longtail cruise and enjoy the tranquility of being the only person on the boat. The cruise offers plenty to see, from birds to monkeys that are bold enough to jump on the boat, to jumping fish and the lush mangroves themselves. It's a sight to behold and definitely worth a visit when in Ko Lanta.

However, it's worth noting that the area has seen better days. On a recent visit, it was observed that the wooden walkways and signs were rotting away, and there was a noticeable absence of life. Even the monkeys, usually a common sight, had disappeared. The concrete walkways, though still intact, led through the mangroves that seemed to have been neglected. Despite the state of disrepair, the walk through the mangroves remained interesting, and it was a shame to see such a potentially wonderful visitor attraction in its current condition. The hope is that with a resurgence in tourism, funds will be found to renovate and restore this gem of Koh Lanta.

The area, interestingly enough, seemed deserted, with everything closed except for the toilets. It appeared as though the whole area had been abandoned. The concrete walkway through the mangroves, however, was still worth the effort in the heat. There were long tail boats scattered around, but no sign of life. The information boards along the walkway had long since lost their information, and parts of the walkway had collapsed. Despite the quiet and lack of other visitors, there were occasional glimpses of monkeys and interesting bird life.

The walkway around the mangroves is approximately 0.8km long, offering interesting views of boats and kayaks on the river or estuary. There are plenty of monkeys on the path, adding to the overall experience. However, it's recommended to arrive early as the stores tend to close late.

For those seeking relaxation and a return to nature, Thung Yee Peng Village in Krabi, Koh Lanta, Thailand, is a recommended destination. The forest, river, and sunrise create a serene atmosphere that is perfect for unwinding.

For the more adventurous, hiring a motorbike and getting a motorboat from the park for an hour is an option. The trip is enjoyable and offers the chance to see loads of monkeys. For a more hands-on experience, hiring a two-person kayak is also an option. Paddling downstream, one can see monkeys almost immediately. However, it's advised not to paddle too close to the bank to avoid monkeys jumping on the kayak.

The Thung Yee Pheng Mangrove Forest is a must-visit. It's a lush mangrove forest with many water outlets leading to beautiful open bays. The forest is teeming with wildlife, including birds and monkeys. It's a sight to behold, especially when the monkeys are seen swimming. Despite the current state of neglect, the forest remains a highly recommended destination for its unique blend of natural beauty and adventure.
