About Wat Khemaphirataram
The temple, known as Wat Khemaphirataram, is a significant historical site that dates back to the Ayutthaya period. Originally known as Wat Khemar, it underwent significant renovations during the reign of King Rattanakosin. The temple is home to several important religious artifacts and points of worship, including a 30-meter tall stupa that houses the Buddha's relics and a beautifully adorned ordination hall. The ordination hall houses a principal Buddha image in the Maravijaya attitude and a transformed Indra Buddha image, both in the Sukhothai art style. Surrounding the principal Buddha image are 80 disciples, each with their names inscribed at the base of their statues. The wall paintings around the ordination hall are truly a sight to behold.Wat Khemaphirataram is located in Nonthaburi province, conveniently situated along a major road. The temple's standout feature is its striking white stupa, the construction style of which is uncertain, but it is known to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. The most convenient way to reach the temple is by private car, but public transportation is also available due to its location along a major road.
The temple is easily accessible and is an ideal destination for those wishing to make merit. It houses a royal relic and is considered a royal temple. The temple grounds are spacious and there is a place to feed the fish at the back of the temple, as it is located next to the Chao Phraya River. Traveling by express boat is also an option. However, during temple festivals, the temple can get very crowded and parking can be challenging.
