The Ang Kaew Reservoir, nestled within the Chiang Mai University campus, is a picturesque and tranquil spot that offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The reservoir is a beautiful place to stroll around, with the university community adding a vibrant and youthful energy to the area. The presence of a charming café nearby enhances the overall experience, allowing visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee while soaking in the positive vibes of the reservoir.The reservoir is particularly popular for morning walks. The path around the reservoir is not too strenuous, making it a pleasant and leisurely walk. The area is often bustling with people, making it a friendly and welcoming place to start the day. After a refreshing walk, visitors can stop by the coffee shop for a great cup of coffee, making it a perfect way to kickstart the morning.
The view of the reservoir is indeed a sight to behold. However, some visitors may feel that the time allotted for photo-taking during the tour is insufficient to fully appreciate the beauty of the reservoir. The tour also covers three heritage buildings, but unfortunately, there is no stop time for photos at these locations.
The reservoir is a large artificial lake that also serves as the water source for the university. It is especially serene and pleasant at sunrise, making it an ideal spot for early morning walks. However, the university buses tourists to the reservoir during the day, so it is advisable to visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
Despite its beauty, the Ang Kaew Reservoir has certain restrictions that may limit the enjoyment of some visitors. Tourists are not allowed to access the campus by themselves and must purchase a shuttle ticket near the main entrance. The shuttle provides an audio guide and takes visitors around the campus, with the only stop being at the reservoir. Here, visitors are given 10 minutes to take pictures before returning to the shuttle. While the lake is beautiful, with stunning water reflections, the limited time and lack of additional attractions may make it less worthwhile for some visitors.
Despite these restrictions, the reservoir remains a favorite hangout spot for many. The spectacular view of the lake against the backdrop of Doi Suthep is breathtaking. A short walk from the university entrance on Huay Kaew Road leads to a quiet patch of greens, perfect for morning meditation and yoga. The warm morning sun adds to the delightful experience. The area tends to attract a lot of tourists in the afternoon, but late afternoons and early evenings are also wonderful times to visit.
Locally known as 'Ang Kaew', this main reservoir in Chiang Mai University offers a stunning view of Suthep Mountain. It's a popular spot for university students to relax and chill. The presence of a nice coffee shop by the reservoir adds to its appeal, making it one of the best places to unwind in Chiang Mai.
