About Ban Singha Tha

The location in question is a quaint, small town with a rich history and potential for growth. The charm of the place lies in its old architecture, which is a delight to explore. The town is dotted with old wats, or temples, that are worth visiting. These ancient structures, despite their age, still hold a certain allure that captivates visitors.

The old buildings, however, are mostly in a sorry state, which is a stark contrast to the nicely paved streets. One particular building stands out as a picturesque setting for photo shoots, often attracting couples looking for a unique backdrop for their wedding photos. The town also boasts a Chinese temple and a Thai Wat that are worth a visit. A new coffee shop, Va-chi, is nearing completion and is expected to attract more visitors to the area.

This part of town is believed to be where Yasothon started, and it has a greater concentration of old wooden buildings than anywhere else. These structures, however, are in a dilapidated state and are often overshadowed by modern intrusions. If the town is serious about making this old quarter a tourist attraction, restoration work needs to be done on some of the old houses and shops. A plan also needs to be drawn up to limit the construction of new, non-heritage buildings.

A visit to the old Yasothon town is a must when in Yasothon province. Despite the poor state of repair of most buildings, it's interesting to see the lovely old structures. The best maintained building in the area is the Yasothon museum, which is well cared for and offers a glimpse into the town's past.

The town is also home to vintage houses that are worth a visit. However, visitors are advised to bring along an umbrella or a hat as the weather can get quite hot. The town's Chinese-style shop houses, reminiscent of pre-war days, are very similar to those found in Malaysia. However, it's uncertain if there was ever a Portuguese influence on these buildings.

The town would be more appealing to tourists if it were pedestrianised. While the old houses and Chinese temples are interesting, they would be more enjoyable to explore without the distraction of motor vehicles. The authorities in Yasothon have taken the development of the town seriously, as evidenced by the special road surface they paid for. However, more needs to be done to make the town a more attractive destination for tourists.
