About Bang Pa In Palace

The Bang Pa-In Palace, also known as the Summer Palace, is a stunning architectural marvel located in Ayutthaya. Built in the 17th century, the palace complex is a testament to the grandeur of the past, with its beautifully maintained grounds and buildings. The palace is used only occasionally today, but its historical significance and aesthetic appeal make it a must-visit destination for travelers.

The palace complex is a blend of various architectural styles, reflecting the diverse influences that have shaped Thai culture and history. Visitors can marvel at a French colonial-styled observation tower, a Russian-styled mansion, a Victorian era house, a vivid red Chinese house adorned with gold and green finishings, and a stone temple. The palace grounds are vast and can be explored on foot, although buggies are available for hire for those who prefer a more leisurely tour. Despite the grandeur of the buildings, the palace grounds exude a sense of tranquility and majesty.

The Summer Palace is known as one of the finest examples of Thai architecture. The entire place is an easy stroll, but visitors are advised to take an electric cart around the area during the summer months, as the heat can be intense. The palace is about 1.5 hours away from Bangkok, making it a convenient stop on the way to Ayutthaya. Visitors are required to wear clothing that covers the legs, and sarongs can be purchased on-site for 100 Baht. The palace is a good place to spend about 1-2 hours, soaking in the history and beauty of the place.

The palace is set amidst beautiful gardens, making it a very picturesque location. The palace was restored by King Monghut and his son King Chulalongkorn, who are well-known figures in Thai history. Visitors are required to adhere to a strict dress code, with men required to wear shorts below the knee or trousers, and women required to wear skirts below the knee and cover their shoulders. The on-site shop offers suitable attire for those who are not appropriately dressed.

The Bang Pa-In Palace is not currently in use by the royal family, but it is often used to host receptions and ceremonies. The palace grounds are beautifully landscaped, with lovely plants, a pond with fishes, and amazing architecture inspired by Chinese culture. Visitors can explore the exteriors of the various rooms and houses, but are not allowed inside the buildings. The palace grounds are vast and mostly uncovered, so visitors are advised to carry sunscreens, sunglasses, water, and an umbrella. A self-driven golf cart is available for hire at 400THB, and the entry ticket per person is around 100THB.

The palace is open from 8.30 AM to 4.30 PM, and it is advisable to book the electric cart for 400 ฿ to explore the whole palace on hot sunny days. The palace offers the best view of the floating pavilion, a sight that is sure to leave visitors in awe. The Bang Pa-In Palace is a testament to the rich history and culture of Thailand, and a visit to this magnificent palace is sure to be a memorable experience.
