About Big Buddha Phuket
The Big Buddha of Phuket is an impressive sight to behold. Towering at 45 meters high and 27 meters wide, this colossal statue is a must-see for anyone visiting the island. The statue is still a work in progress, with the surrounding buildings and structures still under construction. Despite this, the atmosphere is serene and calming, making it a peaceful retreat from the bustling city life.Visitors can contribute to the construction of the Big Buddha by purchasing a tile for 300 baht and writing their name on it. This not only helps fund the ongoing construction but also allows visitors to leave a personal mark on this magnificent structure. In addition to the Big Buddha, there are several other gold-plated statues to admire, and for a small fee, visitors can receive a personal blessing from a monk.
The Big Buddha is easily visible from various points on the island, including the beaches of Kaont and Kata. It is located on top of a mountain, and reaching it involves a steep, winding road. However, the journey is well worth it, as the view from the top is spectacular. Upon arrival, visitors are directed to a self-parking area for bikes, and from there, the Big Buddha is just a short walk away.
The Big Buddha is not just a sightseeing spot, but also an educational center. Visitors can learn about Buddhism and its teachings, and even receive a blessing from a monk. The site also houses a Buddhism center where religious items and Buddhist materials can be purchased. All profits from these sales are used to fund the upkeep and completion of the building works.
