About Centralfestival Chiangmai
Chiang Mai, the "tourist destination" and "lifestyle hub" of the North, is home to a shopping mall that caters to a variety of lifestyles. This mall is a modernized haven of goods and services, boasting over 250 fashion brand-named stores, over 60 lifestyle restaurants both indoor and outdoor, over 10 Major Cineplex movie theaters with 1 IMAX 3D, an Ice Skating Rink, Fun Planet, and a Fitness Club. It is a place that locals visit a couple of times a month, and it is the biggest mall in Chiang Mai.The mall is well-organized, starting from the parking area that is easy to navigate with green lights showing vacant spaces. The ground floor houses a good Tops supermarket with a wide range of choices, especially of specialist foods. Outside, numerous stalls offer an endless array of snacks and other foods. The other floors are well organized into fashion, IT, and banks with the upper floors housing cinemas and restaurants, especially Japanese ones.
The mall offers a free shuttle service for easy navigation around the mall. There is also a tourist privilege called The 1 that can be used immediately after registering at the Information Counter. The shuttle service extends beyond the mall, with a luxurious van that picks up passengers from the night market area and takes them to the mall. The van stops at several hotels on the way to the mall.
The mall is a bit further from the center of town, but like its sister mall CentralPlaza, there are free shuttles that run in a circuit to various hotels. This mall has more routes, and best of all, the shuttles are air-conditioned vans. The mall is really large, housing all retail shops one could ever want, including some luxury brands. The food court in the basement level is a favorite among locals, and the prices are very reasonable.
The mall is also home to the new Jim Thompson outlet shop. This place is a big hit with the locals and is to a standard of many malls in the UK. The food area on the ground floor is a sight to behold, with beautiful and aromatic food. The Jim Thompson store is excellent, with a sale on and helpful staff.
The mall offers a little of everything for everybody. It is new and modern and reasonably accessible. It houses expensive stores where one can find label brands and export quality items. However, it also has many reasonably-priced items. The mall has many upmarket restaurants and eateries, as well as some reasonably-priced food chains. There's an upmarket food-court on the 4th floor and a delicious and inexpensive food court on the ground floor.
The mall also offers a variety of activities, starting with an excellent cinema complex upstairs, a kids' play area, and an ice rink. There's also the usual Education Zone upstairs for art, math, music, etc. And the Central Department Store for clothes and accessories. There's a large SuperSports and a large PowerBuy, not to mention all the top phone shops.
The mall is on the City fringes and arrival and departure by taxi or tuk tuk is suggested. There is plenty of food choice and a department store at one end. There is a tourist card which you can get from customer services in the department store and info desk at Mall entrances. It gives you discounts in many stores. There is a good selection of IT stores, phone shops etc on the 4th floor. Unlike Bangkok, you won't see many Western shoppers, but a lot of store staff do speak passable English.
