About Chansom Memorial Bridge

The Chansom Memorial Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that stretches across the tranquil Ping River, is a sight to behold. It's a serene spot that offers a unique perspective of the city skyline, making it a perfect location for capturing stunning photographs. The bridge, which is free from the hustle and bustle of vehicular traffic, provides a peaceful escape in the heart of the city.

The bridge is particularly enchanting during sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon, the sky is painted with hues of orange and pink, creating a breathtaking backdrop for the Ping River. The sight of the setting sun reflecting off the calm waters of the river is truly a spectacle, making the bridge a must-visit spot for those seeking beautiful and peaceful scenery.

The Chansom Memorial Bridge is conveniently located opposite the flower market, tucked behind the bustling Warorot Market. It serves as an ideal link to the old guesthouse area of Chiang Mai, which is now home to a variety of bars and art galleries. The Regina, with its charming garden adjacent to the Ping River, is one of the few guesthouses still in operation in this area.

The bridge is a perfect addition to a walking tour from China Town, allowing visitors to explore the other side of the river. One can start by crossing the Nawarat Bridge near the Tourist Office, then turn left to visit the river bars or some art galleries, and finally take the footbridge to walk back to China Town. Alternatively, the entire round trip can be done in the opposite direction.

The original wooden bridge was replaced by a stronger, concrete bridge in 1966, which was again renewed in 2016. The Chansom Memorial Bridge is not just a crossing point, but also a place of celebration. It is the best place to witness or participate in firework activities during the Loy Khratong festival in November. It's also a great spot to watch the occasional boat glide by or observe a group of stand-up paddlers honing their skills. The Chansom Memorial Bridge, with its rich history and stunning views, is a testament to the city's charm and beauty.
