About Chiangmai Muay Thai Gym
Chiangmai Muay Thai Gym, located in the heart of the old town, is a place where everyone can experience the art of Muay Thai. This gym is among the top 50 recommended by the Thailand sports authority, offering a good training environment for those interested in exercise, combat, real fights, and self-defence. It's a place where one can immerse themselves in the culture of Muay Thai. The gym also supports Education Visas for those planning long-term stays in Thailand. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about the gym's cleanliness and professionalism. There have been complaints about the gym not being cleaned regularly and the owner's unprofessional behavior, especially towards women. Some visitors have also reported feeling uncomfortable and being overcharged for amateur training, especially if they are foreigners.
Despite these concerns, many visitors have had positive experiences at the gym. For instance, a couple with no prior Muay Thai experience reported having a great time learning the techniques and skills. They found the instructors to be friendly and the workout to be intense. They even got to watch six Muay Thai fights at Thaphae Boxing Stadium after their class, making for a fun-filled day.
However, some visitors have described the gym as a tourist trap, with instructors who seem indifferent. They felt that the classes, which cost 390 Baht each, were not worth the money. They also expressed concerns about the cleanliness of the equipment, particularly the hand wraps and gloves, which they claimed were not cleaned or disinfected after use.
Despite these criticisms, some visitors have had positive experiences at the gym. One visitor, who had no prior experience in martial arts, trained at the gym for five months and had his first full-rules fight in Chiang Mai. He found the trainers to be knowledgeable, humble, and helpful, and he felt that the prices were the best in Chiang Mai.
The gym is conveniently located just a 15-minute walk from the old city, making it an easy choice for tourists. One visitor, who was new to Muay Thai, found the class to be high intensity and enjoyed the training sessions with the trainers and the punching bags. However, she did get bruised on her feet and shins from kicking so much.
Some visitors have opted for personal training sessions and found them to be a good option. The trainers were described as knowledgeable, patient, and good at speaking English. They guided the visitors through warm-up, stretching, techniques, shadow boxing, bag work, and then into the ring.
However, some visitors have had negative experiences with the gym. One visitor booked a private class but found that the coach did not speak English, making communication difficult. She felt that the gym was more interested in making money than in ensuring the quality of the classes. She would not recommend the gym, especially for private classes, if they cannot arrange a coach who can speak English.
