About Din Daeng Doi

West Krabi is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking 360-degree views from its summit. The entrance fee for foreign adults is a mere 50B, a small price to pay for the immense beauty that awaits. For those who prefer not to hike uphill for 10 minutes, a car shuttle is available to take you to the top.

Upon reaching the top, visitors are greeted with a pleasant surprise - a café that serves good coffee. After the hike, it's a welcome sight. The café also offers a full breakfast and the staff are known for their friendly service. It's recommended to wear good shoes for the hike, as the terrain can be challenging.

The journey to this stunning location is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the effort. Access is off the main 4034 road in Ban Khao Klom. Look out for the Krabi International School sign and take the small road between the Minute Mart and the local school. A few kilometers along the road, you'll see signs in Thai indicating the distance to the summit. Follow these signs and you'll eventually reach a large parking area.

From the parking area, a little path leads past a gazebo to the entrance where a small fee is collected. Don't be surprised by the price difference for locals and foreigners - it's a common practice at many attractions in the area. Before starting the hike, there are western-style toilets available near the car park.

The hike to the top involves climbing some rough concrete steps, but the view at the top is well worth the effort. There's a seating area and basic huts available for rent overnight, offering an amazing view over the valley below. The path continues on slightly uneven but solid ground, leading to a signpost that directs you to the viewing platforms and a small restaurant area.

The views from the top are truly stunning. You can watch the sunrise over the vast Krabi Valley with mountains rising in the distance, or look west towards the sunset and Phang Nga bay with Khao Yao Noi in the distance. It's recommended to arrive just before sunrise to enjoy the cool morning air and the breathtaking view of the mist-covered valley below.

After taking in the views, you can enjoy a breakfast treat at the café. They serve coffee, fried churro/doughnuts with condensed milk, Thai food, and some western dishes. The prices are reasonable, so it's a great opportunity to try something new. There are also tents available for rent at the top, and you can even pitch your own if you prefer.

This attraction is a testament to local ingenuity. It's not expensive and they've made an effort to cater to everyone. It's also a great way to interact with the local people. On any given day, you'll find a mix of locals and tourists enjoying the amazing views and helping each other with photos.

For early risers, there's an early bird tour that starts at 5:30 am. You can ride a scooter to the base of the mountain and then walk for about 10 minutes to reach the top. The sunrise view is beautiful and charming, and it's a great way to start the day. After enjoying the views, you can order breakfast and relax.

If you're staying nearby, like at the Frog and Catfish inn, you can easily walk to the entrance. After a relatively easy hike, you'll reach a bamboo sala with a pleasant view. But don't stop there - you're only halfway to the top. Continue on and you'll be rewarded with stunning views and a café with surprisingly cheap prices.

However, visitors should be aware of the mosquitos in the area. Despite using mosquito repellent, some visitors have reported being bitten by mosquitos. It's recommended to take precautions to avoid being bitten. Despite this minor inconvenience, the beauty and value of this trip make it one of the best in the area. After the hike, you can enjoy a cold beer and some of the best food in Thailand at the Frog and Catfish.
