About Doi Chang Mub Arboretum
Nestled right on the Myanmar border, in the heart of the hills and surrounded by lush forest, lies a horticultural gem that has recently gained fame among birding enthusiasts. This site is home to a variety of rare thrushes, making it a must-visit for bird lovers. The site is beautifully maintained, though it might be a bit lacking in facilities. However, the breathtaking views more than make up for it. Conveniently, there is a market located right across the car park. For those looking to extend their stay, there is accommodation available about a 20-minute drive down the road, and a homestay even closer. This site is not just for bird enthusiasts, it's also a great destination for families. The garden is filled with fruits, flowers, birds, and insects, and with the help of talented young local guides, each part of the garden comes alive with interesting stories. Even for those who might find it challenging to engage young boys with flowers, this place makes it an enjoyable experience.
For those who have visited the Doi Tung Royal Villa, this garden might seem a bit aged in comparison. It's about a 15-minute drive from the Villa and the Royal Garden. While it might not be as grand, it still has its own charm. The garden is huge, and while it might not be particularly pretty, it's still worth a visit if you have plenty of time and your own transport. The garden is free to enter, but you'll need to change into their slippers to use the toilet, a measure taken to keep the facilities clean.
Perched high on top of a hill, this garden is sometimes enveloped in mist during the rainy season, earning it the nickname "Garden in the Sky". The garden boasts a variety of plants, though sadly, only a few of them are labeled. There's a nice terrace that offers a splendid view over the plains. However, visitors should be cautious as the trail can become quite slippery after rain.
Also known as the Doi Chang Mubarak Arboretum or Mae Fah Luang Arboretum, this garden is home to many rare species of flowers, including the Millennium Roses. It houses a variety of plants from many countries in Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. The garden is particularly beautiful in early January to February when the flowers are in full bloom.
Even out of season, the garden offers a lovely walk amidst the clouds. From the moment you step in until you reluctantly depart, your eyes will feast upon the spectacular views and well-tended flowers. However, it's worth noting that the garden is not wheelchair friendly.
This beautiful woody place is perfect for those who appreciate nature. There are a few lookouts where you can see into Burma and Laos. It's a serene and peaceful place to walk around and take in the beauty of nature.
