Doi Mon Jam, located in the central district of Mae Rim, just outside the city of Chiang Mai, Thailand, is a must-see destination for any traveler. This charming eco-agro-tourism destination is part of the Lung-Nong-Hoi Royal Project, which began in 1984. Once a forest, it has been transformed into a beautiful flower field, farm, camping site, and nature trail, complete with dining and shopping options. This transformation has not only contributed to the region's tourism activities but has also become the main source of income for the locals living in the area.

At an elevation of around 1300 m, Mon Jam experiences a subtropical highland climate, offering pleasant weather all year round, averaging in the 20s Celsius. The best months to visit this place are during the winter season from November to February, where the weather could be even cooler. The journey from Chiang Mai Old city takes about 40 minutes by car, and the hilly roads on the way up are safe and well paved.

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by numerous stores, shops, and food stalls selling local items, drinks, and foods. The Mon Jam Flower farm is a particular highlight, with its beautiful, organized, and well-maintained flower fields. The flowers are arranged and segregated according to their variety and colors, creating a dazzling display that is reminiscent of scenes from Hollywood movies.

The farm is also home to several insta-worthy installments, such as a rustic vintage motorbike near the entrance surrounded by daisies. There are several benches, rails, and tables with an amazing and undisturbed view of the whole farm, the highlands, mountains, and the camping tents just on the opposite side of the mountain. Visitors are recommended to spend an hour or two in the place to truly appreciate the beauty of nature and its surroundings.

However, some visitors have expressed disappointment with recent changes to the area. The once pleasant open-sided restaurant with great views of the mountains has been replaced with a bare patch of grass. The comfortable coffee bar and cafe have also gone. Visitors are now required to park about 400 meters lower down and walk up a steep hill to get to the top. The views are somewhat spoilt as many are covered in camping tents.

Despite these changes, many still find the journey to Doi Mon Jam worth it. The drive from Chiang Mai city center is long, but the view upon reaching there is breathtaking. The roads are steep and windy, so a pickup with a strong engine is recommended for transport. At the top, the views are amazing, with rice and vegetables planted in tiers on the mountain, and organized tent resorts that people can rent.

Doi Mon Cham has been transformed into a hilly collection of camping sites, strawberry farms, coffee plantations, and lookout points. There are quaint cafes along the way, an elephant park (Mae Sa), and the impressive Queen Sirikit Botanic Gardens, making it an enjoyable getaway from the city.
