About Erawan National Park
Erawan National Park, named after the three-headed white elephant Hindu deity, is a must-visit destination for those seeking a blend of adventure, tranquility, and natural beauty. The park is home to a series of waterfalls with seven different levels, each offering a unique view and experience. The higher one climbs, the more spectacular the falls become, even during the dry season. At the bottom of some of these waterfalls, there are natural pools where visitors can take a refreshing dip, especially on a hot day.The park is easily accessible and offers a variety of experiences for visitors. One can choose to take a local bus to the park, which drops passengers at the entrance after purchasing an entrance ticket. From there, it's a short walk to the camping grounds where tents of different sizes are available for rent. The camping experience is enhanced by the beautiful views of the river and mountains, and the convenience of toilets, showers, and toilet paper. In the evening, visitors can enjoy the company of fellow campers on the floating platform in the river, and indulge in a good, affordable dinner at the parking area.
For those who prefer a more comfortable stay, the park also offers air-conditioned bungalows with fridges, located not far from the park's entry. These bungalows are available for hire at a reasonable price, especially during the weekends. Food and drinks can be enjoyed at the shops near the parking area. The park also has two main trails; one leading to the Erawan Falls and another to the Phra That Cave. Another point of interest nearby is the Sri Nakharin Dam and its storage reservoir, the Sri Nakharin Lake.
Visitors are advised to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds and to have the waterfall to themselves. The park tends to get crowded after 11 am. It's also recommended to wear sensible shoes, as the hike to the top can be slippery. Sunscreen is essential to avoid getting sunburned. The park is home to a variety of fish, some of which may nibble at your feet or legs while you're in the water. They are harmless, but if you're uncomfortable, simply keep moving in the water. It's also a good idea to bring insect repellent.
The park is well-managed and offers a variety of eateries at the entrance. Visitors can choose from seven tiers of waterfalls, depending on their stamina and time availability. Non-swimmers are advised to stay away from the deep pools at the waterfalls, as the water can be quite cold. The park is also home to monkeys, but visitors are advised not to feed them in order to respect the eco-environment.
For those who wish to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the park, staying overnight is highly recommended. This allows visitors to enjoy the serenity of the falls at dusk and dawn, often without the crowds. Whether you choose to camp or stay in a bungalow, the experience of waking up to the stunning views of the park is truly unforgettable.
In conclusion, Erawan National Park offers a unique blend of adventure and tranquility, with its stunning waterfalls, natural pools, and beautiful trails. Whether you're a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or simply looking for a peaceful getaway, this park has something to offer everyone.
