About Ethical Elephant Karen Tribe

The Ethical Elephant Karen Tribe Sanctuary offers a unique and authentic experience for those who wish to interact with elephants in a natural and respectful environment. The sanctuary currently houses five elephants, including a three-year-old, her mother, and a rescue that has been there for a decade. Visitors have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities with these gentle giants, such as feeding them a mixture of ground tamarind, salt, and bananas, and walking with them through fields of growing corn. The elephants are free to roam and stop as they please, providing a truly organic interaction.

The day's activities also include a mud bath, which the elephants clearly enjoy, followed by a rinse in the river. Observing the gentle and intelligent nature of these creatures up close is truly an amazing experience. The sanctuary also provides a traditional Karen Thai lunch, consisting of fruit, fried rice, and chicken. After the elephant activities, visitors are driven to a waterfall for some swimming, and the day concludes with a fun rafting trip on the river.

The sanctuary is run by Sam, a knowledgeable and interesting individual who is passionate about the welfare of the elephants. He provides valuable information about the elephants and is always open to sharing stories and answering questions. The sanctuary staff are friendly, informative, and clearly care deeply for the elephants. The facility itself is designed to be minimally intrusive to the surrounding nature.

Visitors can also arrange for private time with an elephant, a truly magical experience. The sanctuary offers a full day program, which includes pick-up from your hotel. During the day, visitors can play with the elephants, feed them, bathe them, and walk with them through the jungle. The sanctuary also provides a delicious lunch and takes photos throughout the day, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

The sanctuary also offers the opportunity for a longer stay, including an overnight option. This allows visitors to experience the real Karen hospitality, participate in cooking and eating meals, and even sleep in a bamboo house. The food is fresh, clean, and delicious, sourced straight from their fields. The longer stay also provides the chance to participate in local events, such as village weddings.

The Ethical Elephant Karen Tribe Sanctuary is not just a tourist attraction, but a place that truly cares for the well-being of its elephants. It offers an authentic and unforgettable experience for those who wish to learn about and interact with these magnificent creatures in a respectful and natural environment. Whether you're visiting for a day or staying overnight, the sanctuary promises a memorable and rewarding experience.
