Jomtien Beach, located about 4 kilometers south of Pattaya City, is a serene haven for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere. The beach stretches for 6 kilometers, with shady roads running alongside it. Unlike Pattaya Beach, Jomtien Beach is less bustling with nightlife, making it an ideal spot for those seeking tranquility. However, it is far from desolate, as it is nestled in a neighborhood filled with restaurants, convenience stores, and a range of services.Visitors to Jomtien Beach can enjoy the convenience of beach chairs, umbrellas, and hawker food, perfect for a relaxing seaside lunch. For those who are more adventurous, the beach offers a variety of water activities such as banana boat rides, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, and parasailing.
However, it is worth noting that the beach could benefit from some cleaning and maintenance. The water is often unclear due to pollution and waste, and the areas near the sand could use some tidying up. The safety areas and bars also require attention, with the safety rope often covered in moss and yeast. Despite signs indicating a zero waste policy, there are still instances of littering, suggesting a need for stricter enforcement.
Despite these issues, the area surrounding Jomtien Beach is excellent for walking and exploring street food, including a fantastic selection of fruit. A group of fishing boats often dock nearby, and it's a delightful sight to watch the fishermen return from the gulf with their catch early in the morning.
The beach road may be busy and hectic, but the beach itself is long and offers plenty of well-shaded deck chairs on a clean, sandy beach. There is a vast selection of restaurants, cafes, and shops, as well as a bustling night market. Parking is available on the beach side of the road, although it can get quite busy.
Compared to Pattaya, Jomtien Beach is a far better choice for visitors. It is clean, almost pristine, and there is always a pleasant breeze. The Dongtan beach area is particularly excellent, and there is a great nighttime market to explore.
However, visitors should be cautious when choosing accommodation. Some have reported mediocre rooms and poor service at certain hotels, with issues such as uncomfortable beds, overcharging, and lack of cleanliness.
Despite being busier than other beaches in Thailand, Jomtien Beach is surprisingly enjoyable and relatively clean. The water is suitable for swimming, and there are plenty of people offering beach chairs, parasols, and snacks. There is ample parking along the beach side, and it's a joy to see so many people having fun. The beach is lined with restaurants, with Café Le Mar being a popular choice for its relaxed atmosphere and delicious food.
