The hike takes about two hours to reach the top and about an hour to descend. It is recommended to bring plenty of water, as the hike can be quite strenuous and the weather can be humid.Starting the hike early in the morning is advisable to avoid the heat of the day. The ground can be uneven and steep in places, so good footwear is essential. The hike offers a chance to spot some wildlife, including butterflies, squirrels, and even hawks or eagles. Packing a snack for the top is also a good idea, as the climb can be tiring.
The hike starts at Khao Ra Bungalows, which is a short walk north of Safari Boat Valley. The initial part of the hike is on a wide dirt path, which gradually narrows and takes you into the jungle. The path can be rocky and uneven, so careful footing is necessary. There are two viewpoints at the top, one looking north and the other south. The descent is easier, but still requires caution. It is recommended to bring good shoes, plenty of water, snacks, and bug spray.

Finding the start of the trail can be a bit tricky. The signboard for Khao Ra Bungalows is located about 500m down the road from Wat Pha Saa Tham on the Chaloklum to Thongsala road. Once you reach the Khao Ra water filtering facility, you can park your vehicle and start the trek. The climb gets steeper as you approach the top, but the view from the top makes it all worthwhile.
The hike through the jungle to the top of Khao Ra is a great way to experience the island's natural beauty. Despite the humidity and the challenging trail, the feeling of reaching the top is exhilarating. The view from the top is not a full 360 degrees, but it is still impressive. To reach the start of the trail, head to Phaeng waterfalls and continue straight, leaving the waterfalls on your right. Drive until you see the sign for Khao Ra Bungalows and leave your motorbike there. From there, follow the signs to the narrow trail that leads to the top.
