About King Cobra Village
The King Cobra Village, located in Khon Kaen, is a unique destination that offers a blend of adrenaline-pumping experiences and local culture. The staff at the village are known for their friendliness and helpfulness, although they may not be fluent in English. The main attraction of the village is the snake show, which, although short, is quite an adrenaline rush. The daring and skill of the snake handlers, including young boys as young as ten, is truly impressive. After the show, visitors have the opportunity to touch and hold the snakes for a small fee in the form of a tip. The entry fee for foreigners is THB100, although it's unclear what the rates are for locals. However, the village has received criticism for its cleanliness and the living conditions of the animals. Some visitors have described the place as a bad joke about snakes and one poor crocodile. The spectacle has been described as loafing and only for some people. The living conditions of the animals have been described as very bad.
Despite these criticisms, the village has been praised for its efforts to build livelihoods out of almost nothing in the middle of nowhere. The local people have been credited for their friendliness and easy-going nature. The village offers a variety of shops, snacks, massages, and handicrafts. There are also lots of locally collected herbs and concoctions for sale that claim to cure pretty much anything that might ail you.
The village is home to a variety of snakes, including 4-meter long cobras and 40-kilo pythons. Visitors can get a photo of themselves with one of these huge pythons draped over their shoulders for a simple donation. In addition to snakes, the village also houses several other animals such as civet cats, monkeys, and birds in small, dilapidated, cramped cages. However, the conditions of these cages have raised concerns among visitors, who feel that the animals belong in the forest, living free and unencumbered.
The King Cobra Village is not a popular destination among western tourists, but it is considered interesting and fun to see by those who have visited. The villagers are friendly and love westerners. The village pays tribute to the king of all snakes, which is appreciated by snake lovers. However, some visitors feel that the village is only worth visiting if you happen to be in the area, as it's not worth going out of your way unless you really love snakes. The admission is reasonable, at 200 THB per person.
The village has been criticized for its shabby setup and the short duration of the snake show. Some visitors have described the show as cruel and have expressed boredom. There are also other animals such as monkeys and snakes in very small cages, and a market selling the usual trinkets. Some visitors have recommended against visiting the village, stating that it's not worth the 40-minute drive out of the city.
The village also houses a small zoo, but the conditions of the animals have been described as very upsetting. Some visitors have reported seeing a drunken Thai teasing a monkey with a lighter, which is far below any known standard of animal care. Some visitors feel that the zoo should be closed down due to these conditions.
In conclusion, the King Cobra Village offers a unique experience for snake lovers and those interested in local culture. However, the village has received criticism for its cleanliness, the living conditions of the animals, and the short duration of the snake show. Visitors are advised to consider these factors before deciding to visit the village.
