About Krabi Town Signal

Krabi Town, a charming and laid-back locale in Thailand, offers a variety of experiences for travelers. The town is filled with a plethora of restaurants, massage parlours, grocery shops, tailors, and souvenir/beach clothes shops. Despite their small sizes, these shops offer a range of items, including beach dresses and shorts for under 5.00. These items may not last beyond the holiday, but they certainly save on packing space.

The town is also quite walkable, with all hotels within a maximum of a 10-minute walk from the main street. This street leads straight onto the beach, making it a convenient location for beach lovers. However, it's worth noting that the sea can be choppy during the off-season, with occasional rainstorms.

For those seeking adventure, boat trips to the islands for snorkelling are a popular activity, albeit a bit pricey. There's also the opportunity to visit elephants in a sanctuary about 20 minutes away. The town is also equipped with plenty of ATMs, a bank on the high street, and numerous money exchanges offering reasonable rates.

Krabi Town is also a great place for first-time visitors to Thailand. It offers unique sights that are not commonly seen elsewhere, and is conveniently located near the night markets. The town is also safe for solo female travelers, making it an ideal destination for those touring alone.

Upon landing at Krabi International Airport, travelers are greeted by the "Land of Smiles". The airport, which opened in 1999, is medium-sized and gets busier during the high season. The arrival hall is filled with numerous travel agencies and small convenient shops. For those wanting to travel faster to Krabi city or Ao Nang, private taxi services are available, although they are a bit pricier than normal airport taxis. The cheapest transport available to travel into the province is the Airport Shuttle Bus.

Krabi Town is a market Thai town, with a river running through it that is always full of fishing boats. Klong Jilad Pier in Krabi Town is the main pier and connecting point to nearby tourist hot-spots such as Phuket Island, Koh Phi Phi Island, and Koh Lanta. Ao Nam Mao Pier in Krabi is the main gateway to Railay Beach.

The town is also home to Khao Kanab Nam, the symbol of Krabi, which consists of two karst rocks situated next to each other. A 15-minute longtail boat can take you from the pier to the rocks, where you can walk up some stairs to the top. Wat Kaew, one of the main temples in Krabi town, is another must-visit site.

Krabi Walking street night market is another place to unwind and enjoy the evening with plenty of food choices. For those seeking nightlife and island hopping, Ao Nang is the place to go.

One of the unique features of Krabi Town is its quirky street lights. These include a caveman, a Sabre toothed Tiger, an elephant, and an eagle. During the football grand final, the cavemen are dressed in the local teams' shorts, adding to the town's quirky charm.

The town also boasts some unique and fantastic works of art instead of the usual traffic lights. Various sacred animal sculptures hold these signal boxes, including elephants, eagles, otters. The most interesting traffic lights are four Neanderthals (not gorillas) that carry the lights in rock suitcases settled on each of the four roads of the town’s main crossroads of Manus Borarn Square.

Krabi Town is also known for its friendly locals. There have been instances where lost items have been returned by kind locals, asking for nothing in return.

Compared to Phuket town, Krabi Town is much quieter. There are inexpensive hotels like Krabi City View that offer van services to the airport and guest laundry. The food in the town is also commendable, with take-out Chinese food from the hotel and a night market near the ocean offering made-to-order dishes. The town is also safe to walk around at night, making it a comfortable and enjoyable place to stay.
