La-Lu, a small farming village in the Ta Phraya District of Sa Kaeo Province, is a hidden gem that offers a unique and authentic Thai experience. This off-the-beaten-path destination is known for its unusual land formations that have been attracting both local and overseas visitors. Over the years, the hard-packed red clay of the area has been eroded by wind and rain, creating an alien landscape of columns, flutes, and other weird shapes. Some of these formations even resemble the organ pipes of a large cathedral. This landscape makes visitors feel like they've stepped onto a different planet, making the detour to La-Lu well worth it.

The village is well signposted and easy to find, making it a convenient stop for those traveling by motorbike or car. Upon arrival, visitors will find a parking area about a kilometer from the first of these moonscape areas. Here, local farmers have attached two bench buggies to farm tractors and offer rides to the areas of interest. This burgeoning local tourist business provides a supplemental income for the farmers.

However, some visitors have reported that the locals may charge a higher price for foreigners. It's important to note that the cost of a visit to the nearest of these sites is usually around 300 Baht for foreigners, or 500 Baht for a visit to one of the larger sites further away. Despite this, many visitors have found the experience to be worth the cost, as the Lalu canyons are truly amazing and offer a unique sightseeing opportunity.

The area is not run by any authorities but is organized by the local people. The scenery is raw and there are hardly any man-made structures in the area, making it a very local experience. Not many Thai people know about this place, making it an 'unseen' location. However, it's recommended to avoid visiting during the rainy season as the sand canyon can become soaky and filthy. On a sunny day, it can get very hot, so it's advisable to bring plenty of water as there are no shops at the canyon.

Visitors typically spend about an hour or two exploring the area, but the time can vary depending on personal interest. Some have even brought their graduation gowns to take pictures against the unique backdrop. Despite its growing popularity, La-Lu remains a non-mass tourist place, making it a great destination for those looking for something different to see in Thailand. It's a spectacular and unusual sight that's well worth a visit. Whether you're traveling with family or friends, La-Lu offers a unique and memorable experience.
