About Mallika City
The Siamese living Heritage city, Mallika, is a captivating destination that transports visitors back to the era of King Rama V. Nestled in Saiyok, Kanchanaburi province, this reconstructed ancient city is a must-see for all types of travelers. The city is conveniently located on the R323, just 30km west of the Kwai Bridge, and offers free and easy car parking.Mallika is a stunning reconstruction of old buildings, complete with beautiful gardens and plants. Visitors can witness interesting demonstrations of old techniques and interact with farm animals. The city also offers a short rickshaw ride, adding a fun element to the visit. At the entrance, there's a coffee shop that serves delicious dried fruits and snacks, and good food is readily available throughout the city.
The Thai houses in Mallika are beautifully crafted and well-maintained, offering a glimpse into the architectural style of the past. Visitors can easily spend a couple of hours walking around and exploring the city. The admission ticket is reasonably priced at 200 Baht per person. There's a restaurant located at the back of the city, overlooking a serene pond. The views from here are breathtaking, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, the food is average, so it might not be the highlight of the visit.
For those who arrive later in the day, around 5:30 PM, the shops might be closed, but the city remains a beautiful sight to behold. The traditional Thai houses and the white buffalos add to the charm of the place. Many visitors choose to rent costumes, which adds a fun element to the experience. There's also an option to buy a dinner and dance show ticket online for a discounted price of around 600 Baht. The dinner is served in a huge, beautiful Thai house, and the food is delicious and plentiful. The show, which starts at 6:30 PM, is a delightful experience, featuring traditional music and dance.
Mallika is not widely promoted in Kanchanaburi, as the city focuses on promoting its own tourism. However, it's only 34 km from the town and is definitely worth a visit. The village is magnificent and very authentic, and it has even served as a movie background several times. The dinner show with period costume is a unique experience, and the traditional food is very tasty. The only downside is that the place might not be crowded, but this doesn't diminish the quality of the show or food.
The entrance fee to Mallika is 250 Baht, with an additional 150 Baht if visitors want to wear Thai costumes. The afternoon might not be the best time to visit, as most stalls might be empty. However, the city is still worth a visit, even if everything is closed by 18:00 hrs. Despite the service issues, Mallika remains an interesting place to visit.
Spending about 2-3 hours in Mallika is a journey back in time. The 600 Baht fee for entrance, buffet lunch, and traditional clothes is highly recommended. The food is delicious, and the visit offers an interesting insight into what city life was like during King Rama V. Mallika is a highly recommended destination for anyone visiting Kanchanaburi.
