About Mo Chit Bus Terminal
The transit experience can be quite chaotic, especially when dealing with the taxi services at the main entrance. It seems that all the taxis refuse to use their meters, leading to inflated prices. A better option would be to walk a bit to the left or right and flag down a passing taxi. This could potentially save you a significant amount of money.Despite the chaotic nature of the taxi services, the terminal itself is quite manageable. Contrary to many descriptions found online, the terminal is not an inconquerable chaos. There is a central information booth, ticket offices that are easy to locate, a small supermarket, and a food court. The people are also quite helpful. This makes it easy to navigate the terminal and leaves plenty of time to relax and watch the hustle and bustle of the people around.
However, one must be cautious when dealing with the taxi services. One traveler shared an experience of getting a taxi from Mo Chit bus station to a hotel near the airport. The taxi was non-metered and the driver demanded an exorbitant fare. Despite agreeing on a price, the driver seemed to intentionally miss exits to the hotel, leading to a longer and more expensive ride. The traveler eventually had to get out and find another taxi. This experience serves as a reminder to avoid non-metered taxis in Thailand as they can be a complete rip-off.
The Mo Chit bus station is the major bus station for Bangkok. Tickets can be purchased for most towns in the north. The station has convenience stores and a couple of restaurants, although it is showing its age. It is an average and ordinary bus terminal, but it serves its purpose well. Buses can be taken to many places in Thailand, and there are many shops and restaurants inside, including popular fast food chains. The fares are quite reasonable, making it a convenient option for travel.
A word of advice for those being dropped off at Mo Chit bus terminal and staying in the local area is to avoid the taxis. They are known to overcharge. Instead, one can travel through the market stalls and arrive at a public bus station. The signs are in both Thai and English, making it easy to find the right bus. The buses are air-conditioned and the fares are much cheaper than the taxis. The bus terminal itself is a bit run down and dirty, but it is a major bus terminal in Bangkok, so it is to be expected.
However, it is important to note that walking from Mo Chit BTS Station to the bus terminal is not advisable. The walk is long and the weather in Bangkok is hot and humid, making it an uncomfortable journey. Moreover, the roads are extremely busy and there are no pedestrian crossings or traffic lights. It is much safer and more convenient to take a taxi from Mo Chit BTS station to the bus terminal.
