About Namtok Ron (Hot Spring Waterfall ) - Khlong Thom

The hot springs, located in the heart of a small jungle preserve, are a popular destination for travelers seeking a unique and relaxing experience. A family of four, who made the trip with a private driver from Ao Nang, found the hot springs to be a great option for families. The driver charged 2000 Bath for the trip, which included visits to the hot springs, emerald pools, and tiger cave temple. This was considered a good deal as tour companies tend to charge more. The family found the hot springs to be practically empty in the afternoon, just after rainfall. The main pool was completely empty, allowing them to enjoy it alone. The natural spring and waterfall were really nice, and the rocks were not slippery, making it safe for kids to walk on them.

The water in the hot springs is described as delightful, feeling like stepping into a jacuzzi, minus the bubbles. It's a very relaxing experience, surprisingly comforting, and pleasant on the skin. However, it can get very busy and crowded. To avoid the crowds and enjoy a small section of water to oneself, it's advised to get there very early, preferably before midday.

While some visitors found the hot springs to be just an OK experience, others were more enthusiastic. The hot springs are listed as one of the 'attractions' to visit while in Krabi. The warm water flowing in a small pool provides a nice sensation, although visitors are advised not to stay in the water for too long. A word of caution, the rocks can be very slippery, and one has to be very careful to avoid slips that could result in serious injuries.

One unfortunate incident involved a family who had their money stolen from their wallet. They arrived by private taxi and found the staff working at the hot spring to be unhelpful and rather rude. Despite this, they enjoyed their time in the hot water, especially as there were hardly any people around. However, the theft left a bitter taste in their mouth.

For those seeking a more adventurous journey, renting motorbikes from Ao Nang and riding out to Namtok Ron is an option. The drive is long but scenic, with plenty of fun stops along the way. Namtok has a couple of large swimming pools, but they were too hot for some visitors to enter. Walking a bit further past the pools leads to the hot spring waterfall, which is very nice. Visitors can walk across the rocks and into the waterfall for a small soak, then head down the path to a dock. From the dock, one can climb a ladder and enter the pool/stream where the water cascades from the waterfall. The temperature is perfect, and the area is surrounded by trees and other forest growth.

The hot springs are also known as 'hot tubs' crafted into smooth rock channelling water from deep-rooted thermal springs located in volcanic chambers. The waters average 35-40 degrees Celsius and are brimming with natural mineral salts, which are claimed to cure all manner of health complaints including rheumatism and sciatica. The sensation is utterly relaxing and the environment is certainly unique. The hot springs are located about 70 kilometers from Krabi town, close to the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve. It's worth taking the time to combine all of these wonderful eco-spots in one nature-filled day. The entrance fee is 90 baht for the springs, and visitors are advised to bring a beach towel, sandals, and swimwear. To get to the hot springs, one can book a tour, hire a taxi, or rent a car. The drive takes around 40 minutes.
