The aquarium has been a favourite among visitors over the years. Kids particularly enjoy the large tank with a tunnel through it, which allows the fish to swim all around you. A diver goes in and feeds the fish, adding to the excitement. There are also a lot of smaller tanks with a varied selection of fish.

Visitors can spend a pleasant morning at the Nong Khai Aquarium. The aquarium opens into a wide room with good displays. The tanks are a good size and the fish are not overcrowded. There is a glass tunnel to walk through which has a great display, and in the centre of the tank is a replica of the sunken temple in the Mekong River. The fish are fed daily at 2 pm by a scuba diver, with an extra feeding at 11 am on Saturdays and Sundays.

After the tunnel, visitors come into a large open room with open-topped tanks, allowing you to look down on the fish as well as through the glass. There is an area to buy refreshments and gifts, although the selection is mainly aimed at kids. The aquarium is a good way to spend a couple of hours and is generally enjoyed by all.

The large aquarium displays both freshwater and saltwater fish from Thailand and beyond, featuring the local giant Mekong catfish in a 'giant tank'. It's a fun place to visit, just a ten-minute drive outside of town.

The Nong Khai Aquarium is an amazing jewel to visit. It may come as a surprise to find an aquarium in this location, but it's a pleasant surprise nonetheless. Foreigners have to pay slightly more than locals, but the experience is well worth it. Supported by the nearby University, the aquarium is quite educational and features a great array of catfish.
