About Oub Kham Museum

The place may seem small from the outside and the admission fee may seem steep, but there is actually a lot to see. The venue is never crowded, providing a serene environment for visitors to explore at their own pace. The guide is friendly and informative, adding value to the visit.

Despite the cost being higher compared to other places, the experience is worth every penny. The collection is stunning and, at times, overwhelming. The knowledge of the guide enhances the experience, making it a memorable visit.

Over the years, many have visited numerous museums, but this one certainly ranks in the top 5. If one is interested in the history and artifacts from the ancient Lanna Kingdom, then this place is a must-visit. The collection has been curated by an individual with a family interest in preserving the history. The presentation is arranged in an attractive and easily viewed way. Since so few folks bother to visit here, visitors will most likely get a private tour by a guide who has really studied and knows this time period well. The price should not deter anyone from visiting.

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by an elephant heads entrance and a lush green environment. Despite its size, the museum punches far above its weight for interest. The small and compact grounds are fascinating with hidden treasures tucked away through stone doorways or nestling in tiny green areas. The site is an ancient Lanna heritage conservation centre founded by an individual who was inspired by his worry at losing the precious heritage of the northern Lanna Kingdom. The collection includes rarely found art pieces from ancient northern Thailand including thrones, costumes, lacquerware, silver jewellery and a golden bowl masterpiece. The museum allows photographs in certain parts but not in others. The museum grounds are equally stunning, featuring ornate woodwork, fountains, sculptures, figures, floral displays, mini pagodas, incredibly carved stone panels and a beautiful mini waterfall area. After the tour, visitors are taken to an ornate seating area and given a lovely pot of tea to refresh themselves with.

The entry fee may be considered expensive according to Thai standard, but it is worth every cent. The museum is beautiful and the collection is amazing. The ticket comes with a guided tour and a tea session afterwards in a beautiful room, making the visit more enjoyable than expected.

However, it is important to note that there have been instances of differential pricing based on nationality. Some visitors have reported that non-Thai visitors are charged a higher fee compared to Thai visitors. This has led to some dissatisfaction among visitors.

The entrance is built in a very interesting way, setting the tone for the rest of the visit. The owner collects everything from money, clothes, silverware, to Buddha's and it's all really nice and old. Visitors can learn a lot about the Lanna kingdoms, but it's up to them whether they want to spend their money on this private collection. The lack of tourists makes the place really quiet, providing a peaceful environment for exploration.
