The journey to the Pam Bok Waterfall is a mixed bag of experiences. The drive from the main highway is quite long, but the scenic beauty of the route makes up for it. The road condition, however, leaves much to be desired. It's bumpy and mountainous, making the ride a bit of an adventure in itself. The waterfall is located at the end of a short hike up a dirt trail, which can be somewhat dangerous. Wooden boards serve as steps in one area, adding to the rustic charm of the place.Upon reaching the end of the trail, one might be a bit disappointed to find that the waterfall is only partly visible and quite small. The entrance fee of 200 baht might seem steep for such a small waterfall, especially considering that until 2021, the place was freely accessible. Some might argue that the place has lost its charm and has turned into a touristy spot, much like a Disneyland.
The path to the waterfall from the road is a 300m stretch that is dirty and dangerous. It's not advisable to attempt this in slippers. Once there, the place is usually bustling with tourists. The presence of plastic pipes along the water also detracts from the natural beauty of the place.
Visiting during the rainy season might not be the best idea as the waterfall can be dried up, with barely a trickle of water flowing down. The hike, while not particularly exciting, might not be worth the trip if the waterfall is not in full flow.
However, there are those who find the waterfall beautiful and worth visiting. To fully appreciate its beauty, one has to go to the very end. The ground in the water can be a bit sharp, so it's advisable to wear aqua shoes if available. The place is also kid-friendly, but there might be a bit of climbing involved. On the way to the waterfall, there's a land split which is free and worth stopping at.
The waterfall might not be the most exciting, especially during the dry season when there's not much water falling. It might not be impressive enough for some, and there might not be enough water to swim in at certain times of the year. However, it's pretty easy to access.
The road to the waterfall is poorly sealed and has huge potholes, but it's manageable if taken slowly. The waterfall is a short walk from the road and the water is freezing cold. There are usually a few people swimming, adding to the lively atmosphere of the place. Despite the mixed opinions, the Pam Bok Waterfall remains a place of natural beauty that some might find worth the visit.
