About Pha Tad Waterfall
Nestled within the verdant expanse of Srinakarin Dam National Park, a majestic three-tiered cascade stands as one of Thailand's most picturesque waterfalls. The journey to the falls is a bit of a trek, requiring a 30-minute walk, but the sight that awaits at the end is well worth the effort. However, it's worth noting that the pricing for entry is different for locals and foreigners, with the latter being charged 300 baht. Despite this, the experience is worth the cost, even if the visit lasts only half an hour. The waterfalls are a sight to behold, their beauty amplified by the crystal-clear lakes at their base. Visitors can take a refreshing dip in these lakes, but be prepared for the friendly fish that might come to nibble. It's a harmless, albeit slightly disconcerting, experience, but it adds a unique touch to the overall adventure.
The waterfall is divided into seven levels, each with its own charm. Reaching all of them requires a bit of a climb, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The highest level boasts an impressive height, and each level offers a chance to swim or cool off in the pools. It's advisable to bring water shoes or flip flops for the water, but the uphill climb might be more comfortable in something more robust. Spending a few hours exploring the different levels can easily turn into a full day's adventure.
For those seeking a more immersive experience, camping in the park is an option. Arriving in the evening allows for some playtime at the second-tier waterfall before it closes at 5 p.m. Renting a tent and spending the night under the stars, with the breathtaking view of the dam's lake in front, is an unforgettable experience. The next morning can be spent exploring the higher tiers before leaving the park.
A day in Erawan National Park is a day well spent. The first local bus departs at 8 a.m., and after a two-hour journey, the magnificent waterfalls of Erawan await. The park closes at 4:30 p.m., so it's best to finish sightseeing by this time. The sixth tier can be reached without getting wet, but reaching the seventh tier is a bit of a challenge, requiring a bit of wading. However, the sight that awaits is well worth the effort.
The trail to the upper part of the falls can be challenging, especially for older visitors. It's recommended to bring water and wear comfortable shoes for the hike. The feeling of accomplishment upon reaching the top is unparalleled, and a dip in the water to cool off is the perfect reward. However, caution is advised as the rocks can be extremely slippery.
A day at the waterfalls can be a fun-filled adventure. Visitors can paddle in the water, laugh as the fish nibble at their feet, and even share a few screams of surprise. With five levels to explore, it's best to allocate a full day for the visit. Bringing a picnic to enjoy like the locals do is a great idea, but be sure to bring extra for the monkeys. The waterfalls are a must-visit, offering a unique and memorable experience.
