About Philatelic Museum
The location in question may not be the most exciting or outstanding place to visit, but it does hold a certain charm for those with a keen interest in philately and history. The site is home to a collection of royalty stamps, old typewriters, and even some vintage pillar boxes that stand as a testament to the past. While it may not be the most thrilling of destinations, it does offer a glimpse into a bygone era.Nestled by the river, this hidden gem is a haven for stamp collectors. It may require a taxi ride to reach, but the journey is well worth it for the treasures that await. The displays chart cultural developments and offer a wide range of sets, starting from just 12 baht. The shop at the entrance offers a good selection and helpful advice on the best purchases.
While it may not be as spectacular as its two sister museums, it does offer an interesting experience, especially for those with a keen interest in philately. A discount is available for those who wish to visit all three museums, making it a cost-effective option for those looking to explore multiple sites.
The history of the Thai postal services is brought to life through a collection of old pictures and stamps. The building itself, a former post office, is well maintained, both inside and out. Visitors have the opportunity to purchase mint Thai stamps, as well as older, out-of-circulation stamps at their original nominal prices. Unfortunately, the highly sought-after stamps on silk are no longer available.
The two-storey building, which once served as the main post office, is now a small museum. It houses antique equipment, such as typewriters, and a curated display of philately. A closer look at the exhibits reveals parts of Thai history. The staff, who speak English, are helpful and can assist with stamp purchases. The museum is clean and well-maintained, making it a worthwhile stop for at least 15 minutes. It is conveniently located across the river from the railway station.
While it may not be a vast store of stamp history, it offers a snapshot of Thailand's history through philately. Visitors can expect to spend about half an hour exploring the exhibits and can leave with some stunningly beautiful stamps for their collections.
The building itself is a landmark, with a history that dates back to when it served as a courthouse and later, the central post office. It houses interesting old equipment used at the post office, as well as a collection of stamps and even a collection of Buddha figures that were destined to be sent out of the country but were confiscated by the postal authorities. Entry to the museum is free, making it an affordable option for those interested in history and philately.
