About Phra Si Ratana Chedi

The Grand Temple is home to a stunning golden temple, a sight to behold especially when the sun shines brightly on it. The dome of this temple is a marvel of craftsmanship, formed through millions of tiny gold tiles. The sight of this golden spectacle under the February sunshine is nothing short of breathtaking.

Within the Royal Palace, one can find a wonderful golden stupa or chedi that belongs to the Emerald Buddha Temple. This chedi, situated on the west end of the upper terrace, was built by Rama IV in the middle of the 19th century. It is reminiscent of the ancient pagodas of Ayutthaya. The chedi is covered with small gold mirrored tiles, making it shinier than other pagodas that are merely painted with gold. It is said to house a piece of the Buddha's breastbone, adding to its spiritual significance.

The Wat Phra temple complex, a popular tourist destination in Bangkok, houses a giant golden stupa that shines brightly in the sunlight. The architecture of this stupa is inspired by the stupas found in the historical city of Ayuthaya. Tourists from all over the world flock to this site, eager to capture the beauty of the golden stupa in their photographs.

The Phra Si Ratana Chedi, a golden, bell-shaped stupa, is stunning in its simplicity. This stupa recalls the monumental pagodas of the old capital in Ayutthaya. The chedi is faced with small gold mirrored tiles, making it much shinier than pagodas that are simply gilded. This chedi houses a piece of Buddha’s breastbone, adding to its spiritual significance. The design of the chedi is influenced by Sri Lanka architecture. When the three stupas are aligned, one can notice the distinctive architecture of each. The more domed-like structures are Cambodian, whereas the steep spires are Thai.

The Grand Palace and the Temple of Emerald Buddha house a golden stupa that is said to contain the ashes of the Buddha, making it an important place of worship for Buddhists. The Phra Siratani Chedi, a sizeable 19th-century stupa that is Sri-Lankan in style and design, is located on the Upper Terrace near the entrance to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It is believed that the ashes of the Lord Buddha are maintained within Phra Siratani Chedi, which makes this a very important building for Buddhists who visit the Grand Palace complex. This chedi can be easily found due to its size, unique spire-like shape, and solid gold colour.

The stupa is certainly the standout structure at the Grand Palace. It stands so high and is so golden that one might need to cover their eyes as the sun shines on the brilliant gold paint. It is simply beautiful and a must-see for anyone visiting the Grand Palace. The sight of this structure is so captivating that one can't help but take loads of photos to remember the experience.
