About Seri Market

The food court in question is a bustling hub of culinary delights, frequented by locals and tourists alike. Its popularity stems from the wide array of specialty kiosks that offer a diverse range of delicious food. However, it's worth noting that the owner's political affiliations have stirred some controversy among the local Thai population. The owner is part of a group of military-appointed senators who recently declined to confirm the democratic coalition's choice for Prime Minister, despite the coalition controlling over 60% of the elected seats in Parliament. This has led to some Thais feeling uncomfortable visiting the market. Despite this, the food court continues to thrive, largely due to the exceptional staff and the high-quality food they serve.

One of the standout locations within the food court is the Seri Market, located on the lower floor of the Paradise Park Shopping Center on Srinagarindra Road. This market is a haven for food lovers, offering a plethora of freshly cooked Thai dishes from around 100 stalls. The market is known for its cleanliness, fresh ingredients, and excellent value for money. A large plate of curry with pork and rice, for example, costs just 60 Baht. The food is not overly spicy and caters to a variety of tastes, with options ranging from vegetarian dishes to seafood, chicken, duck, and pork. In addition to the Seri Market, the lower floor also houses several other restaurants and take-away shops, making it a one-stop destination for food lovers.

The Seri Market is a feast for the senses. The sight of the local food is enough to make anyone's mouth water, and the reasonable prices make it all the more appealing. The market is also known for its indoor air conditioning, making it a comfortable place to dine even in the heat of Bangkok.

While some locals may consider the food at the market to be slightly expensive, the quality of the food justifies the price. A plate of rice with two choices costs 50 Baht, which is comparable to street food prices. However, the food at the market is considered to be of a much higher standard than street food, and the cleanliness of the market is a major plus point. The market also sells a variety of organic and locally made and supported foods, which could account for the slightly higher prices.

The Seri Market is also known for its commitment to health, with a sign at the front of the market stating that the food contains no MSG. The market offers a variety of dishes, from rice with curry and lad na noodles to Muslim curry noodles. The giant garlic chive dumplings (Gui Chai) are a particular favorite, filled with chives and costing just 20 Baht each. The fish pun klips, Thai snacks from the curry noodle shop next to the giant chive dumplings, are also highly recommended.

Despite its many positives, the market has had its share of criticism. Some visitors have found it to be uninteresting, despite the air conditioning and the variety of local food on offer. There have also been instances of dissatisfaction with the quality of some of the food, such as the 200-gram crab meat that reportedly had a strong ammonia taste. However, these instances seem to be the exception rather than the rule, and the market continues to be a popular destination for food lovers in Bangkok.
