About Si Satchanalai Historical Park

Nestled on the banks of the Yom River, the remnants of an ancient town, once known as "Muang Chaliang", beckon history enthusiasts and explorers alike. The site is home to over 134 monuments, each a silent testament to the rich past of the region. The ruins, unlike those in Sukhothai, are not restored, offering a raw and authentic glimpse into history. For those who prefer not to walk, a trolley service is available to navigate the expansive site, making it a fun and educational stop on any Thai itinerary.

The park, although a bit distant from the town, is a haven of tranquility. It is large, resembling a forest, and is well-maintained. While it may not boast as many historical ruins as the Sukhotai Historical Park, it offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking a quiet walk in nature.

The park is also a great place for a bike ride. With the current lack of crowds due to COVID, visitors can enjoy the park all to themselves. The park is well-kept, with workers regularly cleaning and weeding. Bikes can be rented for a small fee, and visitors can spend a couple of hours exploring the park on two wheels. A short drive away is Thaitone, a highly recommended coffee shop, perfect for a post-ride refreshment.

The park, along with the Sukhothai Historical Park, offers stunning views and photo opportunities. Visitors can ride bicycles around the beautiful ruins, with hardly any other tourists in sight. However, it's worth noting that some ruins are located outside of the main square and are quite a distance away. It's recommended to visit these by car, unless you plan to spend the entire day at the park.

This park is considered second only to the main Sukhothai Historical Park. It's large, possibly even larger than Sukhothai, and is covered with a beautiful forest. The park is extremely well-organized, with every point of interest clearly marked. Bicycles are available for rent, allowing visitors to spend a few hours immersing themselves in the park's amazing history.

Despite its beauty and charm, the park has been criticized for its pricing policy, which some visitors perceive as discriminatory. Non-Asian visitors are charged a higher entrance fee, which has led to some dissatisfaction. However, many still consider the park to be one of the top places to visit in Thailand, particularly for those who are already visiting Sukhothai.

In conclusion, while the park's pricing policy has been a point of contention, its historical significance, natural beauty, and tranquility make it a worthwhile addition to any Thai travel itinerary. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this park has something to offer.
