About Suan Lamai
Suan Lamai, located in Rayong, is a kingdom of fruit on the mountain. With an area of more than 500 Rais, this garden is nestled amidst mountains, natural forests, and a variety of plants. The cool atmosphere throughout the year adds to the charm of this place. It took over a decade to design and complete the garden, with each plot of plant systematically and aesthetically planned and cultivated.Visitors are welcomed with a variety of fruits, including durian, rambutan, mangosteen, pomelo, rose apple, longan, Zalacca, dragon fruit, langsat, starfruit, sweet yellow Marian plum, and grapes. The experience of picking fresh fruits from the trees is a unique one. The garden provides vehicles for transportation within the premises and stand-by staff who provide information to visitors throughout the trip. The garden is open from 08.00 AM - 05.00 PM.
The location is beautifully placed within a rural area, accessible only by car. The view overlooking the Wang Chan Forest learning center sponsored by PTT is truly breathtaking. Upon arrival, visitors will find a large open parking space to accommodate a lot of visitors. However, it's important to note that the fruit season may vary, and it's advisable to check before visiting.
The caravan park within the premises offers an opportunity for an overnight stay. However, some visitors have reported that the caravans are old and not well maintained. The beds are reportedly uncomfortable, and the windows and blinds are in need of repair. The bathrooms also need improvement. Despite these issues, the location and the natural beauty of the place make it worth a visit.
The drive to the area is a lovely mixture of nature, winding roads, soft sunrays through the trees, and clear blue sky. The water body and the farm add to the beauty of the place. The food served is tasty, although some improvements in the quality of steak and food safety have been suggested. The coffee and cake served here are also highly recommended.
Suan Lamai is a family-friendly destination, offering activities like fruit buffets and feeding sheep. The entrance fee is 490 baht, which is the same for both Thai’s and foreigners. The summer fruit season is in full swing, offering an abundance of fruits like mangosteen, rambutan, salak, bananas, pineapple, watermelon, papaya, and the most-sought-after, durian. The feeding of the sheep is a highlight for many visitors. For only 10 baht, you get some grass that you can take into the enclosure with you.
Suan Lamai is a great morning out with the family. It is advisable to get there before the tour buses arrive in the afternoon. The activities are seasonal, with the cosmos season of flowers being a popular time to visit. Despite some drawbacks, the natural beauty and the unique experiences offered make Suan Lamai a place worth visiting.
