About Suan Pakkad Palace Museum
Suan Pakkad Palace, once the residence of Princess Chumbhot of Nagor Svarga, a leading art collector in Thailand, is a beautiful complex that houses five traditional Thai structures. Each of these houses boasts a collection of historic items and works of art, making it a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. The palace is artistically superior to Jim Thompson's House and offers a much better entry price, making it a must-visit for those on a budget. The comparison with Jim Thompson's House is inevitable, but Suan Pakkad Palace stands out with its richer collection of art and antiquities. It offers a more comprehensive historical and artistic experience, and the entrance ticket is a mere 100 baht. The visit is worth every penny, and upon entering, visitors have the option to follow a guide who will accompany them throughout the tour. The Thai-style houses are filled with antiques and objects of great artistic and historical value in every room. The palace offers a real encounter with Thai artistic history, while Jim Thompson's House is superior in terms of the garden and extra offerings.
The palace, which used to belong to the grandchild of King Rama V, consists of seven traditional Thai houses and one modern house, all nestled in the middle of a tropical garden in the city. The houses are filled with artefacts from Southeast Asia and China, making it a fascinating visit. Despite being less popular among tourists compared to Jim Thompson's House, Suan Pakkad Palace Museum offers a more interesting experience. The guided tour lasts for about an hour and costs 100 THB for foreigners and 50 THB for Thai people.
Suan Pakkad, or cabbage garden, was once the house of the grandson of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and is now a museum. The museum consists of eight rooms connected into a spacious house, filled with artefacts from different countries and periods, not only Thai. The collection includes pottery, jewellery, carvings, musical instruments, and more. It's not a typical tourist place, making it a quiet and peaceful retreat. Visitors are recommended to spend around two hours here to fully enjoy the experience. However, photography inside is not allowed and the entrance fee is 100 baht.
The palace is a peaceful haven in busy Bangkok. It offers a cool, interesting, and quiet experience, making it a lovely place to spend an hour in peace amidst the frantic pace of Bangkok. The collection of houses and artefacts collected by a member of the Thai Royal Family makes it an interesting visit.
While it may not be too exciting for some, it's a good place to visit if you have time to kill in Bangkok. It's not very famous among tourists, making it a calm and peaceful place to visit. The traditional buildings are well maintained and well connected for easy viewing. The beautiful antiques are well presented, and the place is surprisingly not busy at all.
Suan Pakkad Palace is a hidden delight in downtown Bangkok. It's a low-key version of Jim Thompson House, but the upside is that visitors often have the place to themselves. The lovely Thai houses are nestled in a quiet green corner of downtown Bangkok, near the Phaya Thai sky train station, making it easily accessible.
