About Thale Noi Waterfowl Park
The largest freshwater lake in Thailand is a spectacle to behold. An early morning boat trip, lasting around two hours, offers a chance to witness the pink lotus in full bloom. The lake is home to a wide variety of birds, mainly waders, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts. A stroll along the lake shore leads to a wetlands research centre, a place that emphasizes the educational vocation of the area and is well worth a visit. The lake also offers a wonderful way to enjoy the sunset. The friendly boat drivers make the experience even more enjoyable. The sunset is truly spectacular, and if one looks carefully, they can spot a multitude of birds.
For those who are early risers, the sunrise tour on the lake comes highly recommended. However, if one is interested in bird watching, it is important to inform the boatman beforehand. Otherwise, one might find themselves zipping past eagles, kingfishers, and other bird species to see the water lilies.
Phatalong, though a new place for many, is a great place to visit. It offers delicious Thai food and beautiful scenery. Thale Noi Waterfowl Park, located in Phatalong, is a must-visit. Waking up early in the morning to capture the beautiful sunrise is an amazing experience. The boat ride in the park is also quite awesome.
The lake, located near the city of Phattalung and less than a two-hour drive from Hatyai, is a wildlife sanctuary, especially for the protection of birds. It is a haven for bird-watchers as many species of birds, both local and migratory, can be found here. Egrets, herons, swamp hens, kingfishers, and wild ducks are just a few of the species that call this place home. However, birds are not the only attraction here. One can take a boat and immerse themselves among the thousands of water lilies in the lake. It is important to note that the boats are without roofs and it can get very hot at midday, so it is better to start early. The park is open between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. daily. While the entrance is free, there is a fee for the boat ride. It is advisable to bring along sunblock, sunglasses, a hat, and some drinking water.
This place is unique and underrated. One must wake up very early in the morning to catch the swimming buffalo, and to avoid the heat. It is an amazing and beautiful sight. Photographers and social media enthusiasts will find themselves running out of battery due to the numerous photo opportunities, so it is advisable to bring a good power bank.
Visiting early in the morning is recommended. A trip from Hat Yai can get one there around 11:50 a.m. local time. There is a booth providing long-tail boat service, with a signboard showing map of routes and prices. The shortest route, ROUTE A, lasts for an hour and costs 450 baht per boat. The lotus are still beautiful, but it is advisable to come prepared with sunblock, or to arrive early in the morning.
