The palace complex is named after the Chakri Group, the last Royal dynasty. One of the palaces houses the deceased body of a member of the Royal family for 100 days after death, before the body is cremated on the large square in front of the Royal Palace.

The Chakri Mahaprasart Throne Hall is the most important building inside the Royal Grand Palace compound. It's still occasionally used and is a beautiful blend of Thai and European arts. The throne hall was built by two British architects from Singapore. It's a sight to behold and a perfect spot for some memorable pictures before leaving the Grand Palace compound.
