About Turtle Conservation Center
The Sea Turtle Conservation Center is a place of joy and inspiration, where visitors can learn about the efforts being made to help sea turtles thrive. The center is led by a man named Ajarn Jim, who is known for his passion and dedication to the cause. He and his team work tirelessly to care for baby turtles, preparing them for their eventual release into the Andaman Sea. Their work is not only inspiring but also contributes significantly to the betterment of the world. The center's efforts are focused on protecting the turtles, and their work has proven to be effective. When the turtles are released into the wild, they have a 40% better chance of survival, thanks to the care and preparation they receive at the center.
Visitors can spend half a day at the Thap Lamu Sea Turtle Conservation Center, where they will be humbled by the enthusiasm and dedication of Mr. Jimmy and his crew. The team cares for turtles of all ages and conditions, from one-week-old babies to older, disabled turtles. Each turtle receives the same level of love and attention, making a visit to the center a highly recommended experience for anyone who loves turtles or is looking for a unique activity.
The center is located inside the Thai Naval base compound, but visitors should not be deterred by this. All that is required is a photo ID, which is left at the main gate with the friendly and helpful guards. Visitors are encouraged to take a guided tour with Mr. Jimmy, who is incredibly knowledgeable about all things turtle-related. The entrance fee is only 60 Baht, but additional donations are appreciated as they go towards food and medicine for the turtles.
The center is well-maintained, with clean pools for the turtles and a dedicated team that ensures any injured turtles receive the necessary medical care. There are several different pools, each housing different species and ages of turtles. The work done by the navy to help the turtles is truly commendable.
Visitors can easily spend an hour or more walking around the center, observing the different species, sizes, and ages of turtles. The center also has a pleasant cafe on site, making it a perfect place to visit on a rainy day. While some may be put off by photos of small tanks, these are actually for injured or unwell turtles that need treatment and recuperation. Healthy turtles are housed in several large tanks.
The center is also a great place to visit with small children. With fewer visitors in the early hours, families can enjoy a more intimate experience. The center is not only a fun and educational outing for kids, but it also supports a great cause.
In addition to the turtle conservation efforts, the center also has a tsunami memorial on site. The entrance fee is a mere 60 Baht, and visitors can easily spend 90 minutes exploring the center. Feeding times for most turtles are at 9, 1, and 5, with the larger ones being fed at 3. Despite the minimal explanation provided, the center offers a relaxing and worthwhile experience for all visitors.
