Vajiralongkorn Dam, also known as Khao Laem Dam by the locals, is a symbol of Thong Pha Phum District. It is a place that is full of the beauty of the lake view in the Kanchanaburi area. The dam is adorned with a beautifully decorated garden, which is a sight to behold. Visitors can drive up to see the view around the dam, free of charge. The view on the dam is breathtaking, with one side being next to a steep rocky mountain. The dam offers a picture of a large reservoir with emerald green water, making it a beautiful and serene resting place.The dam is not just beautiful, but it also offers a unique experience. Visitors can drive to the top of the dam for the views, then drive down to the dam view point. There is also a skywalk near the restaurant where visitors can stop and take in the beauty of the surroundings.
The Vajiralongkorn Dam is worth visiting if it’s a part of a bigger tour of the area. Cars are allowed to go up to the top of the main dam, from where there are very good views over the hills and the lake. Just down from the dam, there is a picturesque flower garden worth stopping by for a few photos. The dam is free of charge for all visitors, making it a budget-friendly option for those looking to explore the area.
While the views are nice, it is recommended to avoid visiting around mid-day as there is no place offering cover from the sun. The best time to visit would be in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not at its peak.
The Vajiralongkorn Dam, being the western dam in Kanchanaburi and the further one from the town, provides a very good escape for visitors seeking solitude. It is highly recommended to spend a night on the floating raft in the dam. The beautiful nature, wonderful sunset and twilight, open sky with Milky Way spread across the sky and waking up with virgin surrounding of the new day are more than one can dream for.
The views from the top of the Dam are amazing and very beautiful. However, visitors should watch out for the local troupe of monkeys that inhabit the area. Despite their presence, the Vajiralongkorn Dam remains a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the natural beauty of Thailand.
