The journey began with a quest to identify a local temple in Hua Hin, a task that proved to be more challenging than expected. The temple, known for its large reclining Buddha, is somewhat hidden at the back of the main temple. Despite the initial confusion, the friendly staff at the local Tourist Centre were more than willing to assist. They provided an English map of Hua Hin that was far more accurate than online alternatives, revealing new temples to explore.The temple itself was a sight to behold. The main area was filled with a variety of structures and statues, each more impressive than the last. On the day of the visit, the temple was bustling with activity, possibly due to a ceremony for a young monk's ordination. Despite the crowd, the atmosphere was welcoming, with no one seeming bothered by the presence of a visitor.
After capturing a few images, the journey continued through what appeared to be a residential area, leading to the discovery of the Reclining Buddha. This serene spot provided the perfect setting for a half-hour of quiet reflection. The tranquility of the area allowed for a peaceful meditation session, accompanied by Nembutsu chanting. The solitude of the area made it a comfortable space for such activities.
A personal ritual of lighting joss sticks was also observed. On this particular day, five sticks were lit instead of the usual four, each representing a member of the immediate family. The fifth stick was lit in memory of Brandon. This was the first temple visit after a heartfelt message was sent to Brandon's mother, a task that had been emotionally draining. The act of lighting the fifth stick was a poignant reminder of Brandon and the impact of his loss.
The temple visit was a journey of discovery, reflection, and personal growth. It was a reminder of the power of quiet moments of contemplation and the importance of remembering loved ones. The experience was a testament to the beauty and tranquility that can be found in the most unexpected places.
