About Wat Kasatrathirat Worawihan
Nestled on the bank of the Chaophraya river, there lies a serene and attractive temple. Its Thai name translates to 'king', hinting at its royal origins. It is believed that this temple was commissioned by a former Ayutthaya king. The current structures that stand today were reconstructed during the early Bangkok period, around the 18th century. While many travelers have a list of six must-visit temples, this one often comes as a pleasant surprise, recommended by local tuk-tuk guides. Its unique charm and intriguing history make it a worthwhile stop on any temple tour.
Despite the abundance of temples, or 'Wat's, in the area, this one stands out due to its dazzling colors. The brilliant hues of the temple's exterior are striking, making it a memorable sight even for those who have visited numerous temples.
Located in Ayutthaya, this temple is a treasure trove of beautiful Thai arts and architecture. The intricate designs and craftsmanship on display are a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Although it may be a bit challenging to find, being situated across the river from the Heritage island, the journey is well worth it. The temple is in excellent condition, well-maintained, and not as crowded as the temples in Bangkok, offering a more peaceful and relaxed experience.
The temple is small yet ornate, with the ceiling and the exterior being the highlights of the place. Adding to its uniqueness is a working crematorium located next door, offering a glimpse into local customs and practices.
Situated right by the Chao Phraya river, not far from the bridge leading to Wat Chai Wattanaram and opposite of Chedi Suriyothai, this active temple provides a nice contrast to its busier and slightly more chaotic neighbor, Wat Taka Rong. The most visible feature of the temple, a white prang, is beautifully illuminated at night and stands majestically next to large, beautiful trees. This quiet temple by the river is a hidden gem, offering a tranquil retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
