About Wat Pariwat

Nestled in the heart of the city, a unique temple complex awaits exploration. This old temple, currently under refurbishment, offers a blend of traditional and modern elements that make it a must-visit destination. The complex consists of two buildings, one of which is fully refurbished while the other is still a work in progress. Unfortunately, the David Beckham museum, a popular attraction within the complex, was closed during the visit. However, the complex offers a serene walk leading to a calm river terrace where one can enjoy a relaxing coffee or soft drink, making it the highlight of the visit.

The temple is a wild and wacky mix of modern anime and cartoons with historical folklore. The craftsmanship is beautiful, regardless of the old or new figures, making it a great place for young people to look for familiar figures among the bizarre ones. The temple grounds are home to a variety of characters, including Superman, Batman, Wolverine, and Pinocchio, to name a few. David Beckham is also featured, but he is in a different part of the temple grounds. The temple is a lot of fun to explore and is generally not crowded. However, there isn't anyone around to answer questions or give advice, so visitors should be prepared to explore on their own. There are donation boxes scattered around the temple, and it is courteous to make a donation to help support the ongoing work.

One of the two temples in the courtyard is covered in scaffold, which may make it easy to miss some of the unique features. The uncovered temple, however, boasts an amazing array of weird and wonderful characters, including several from Disney and Marvel. This work of art is definitely worth a visit.

The temple is quite a distance from the city, but it is possible to reach there on a budget. One can take the BTS till Chong Nonsi station, walk to the BRT station, and then take the bus till B7 Wat Pariwat stop. The temple is adorned with characters, making it an interesting sight. However, it was closed during the visit. There is another main hall that is also interesting and worth a visit.

The temple is a small local temple located about 30 minutes drive away from Sukhumvit 76. It might not be the type of temple that takes your breath away, but it is rather a quirky one. It has interesting adornments on the temple itself or on the platform which carries the Buddhist statues. It is amazing how both modern artistry and ideas are blended with and accepted into a Buddhist temple. If you have been to Bangkok for the umpteen times, this temple would be an interesting one to visit.

For some reason, this temple appears to be off the radar of most tourists. The temple is wrapped in a collection of statues, both large and small, the latter in the frieze along the base of the building. There are impressive metal decorative doors and window shutters. Inside there are paintings and more statues, all of which display a high degree of artistry and are presented in a highly ornate late baroque-like style. The traditional works far outnumber the whimsical ones and are the real gems. They are remarkably well-executed and beautiful. The temple is easy to get to. You can take the air-conditioned BRT (rapid transit bus) from Sathon Station, just a few minutes walk on the covered skywalk from BTS Chong Nonsi. Get off at Wat Pariwas stop (BRT Stop #7 from Chong Nonsi).

Wat Pariwat is a temple with some unusual features. In the central courtyard, there are two buildings which are currently being refurbished. One has the traditional Thai style figures under the eaves. The other includes pirates, cowboys, Che Guevara, Tutankhamun, and the list goes on! The temple is quite large, with many families praying in the main hall and in side halls. There's a refreshment stall. The main tourist attraction, the two amazingly decorated shrines, are in a large, concrete, scorchingly hot yard. The UV reflection is truly ferocious. The two shrines in the centre are being renovated but one already looks wonderful inside with a stunning deep blue. And then there's the figures around the top outside. Just wow!
