About Wat Phra Bat Ming Mueang Worawiharn

The Phra Bat is a site of spiritual significance, believed to be a footprint of the Buddha. While it may not visually compare to other examples, it holds a unique charm for those who appreciate the spiritual aspect of such places. The site is also home to a monastery school, where novices of varying ages diligently learn their lessons. This adds a layer of cultural richness to the experience, offering a glimpse into the lives of those who dedicate themselves to spiritual learning.

The Phra Bat is not for everyone. It is a place that appeals to those with a keen interest in spiritual and historical sites. For those who have grown weary of temples, it may not offer anything new. However, for those who find joy in exploring such places, it is a site worth visiting.

Located in the city center, the Phra Bat is a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. It is a place where one can find tranquility and fresh air. The site is steeped in history, with Lord Buddha's footprints adding to its spiritual significance.

The site is also home to a beautiful and distinctive stupa, along with associated buildings. The complex is an interesting place to explore, and the walk from the small city center is enjoyable. Phrae, the small town where the site is located, is at the heart of the historic teak industry, adding another layer of interest to the visit.

The temple on Charoen Nakhon Road is another site of interest in Phrae. Created in 1955 by combining two much older 18th Century temples, Wat Phra Bat and Wat Ming Mueang, it is now a 'Royal' temple and is regarded as one of the most important in Phrae. The temple houses an old chedi with a 600-year-old replica of a large Buddha footprint and the Phra Phutthakosai Sirichai Mahasakayamuni Buddha statue, which is regarded as the main Buddha statue in Phrae. The temple grounds also feature an unusual octagonal teak drum tower and a lovely old wooden hall.

The temple grounds also house the Foundation for the famous Thai writer Chote Phraephunor Yakob, who was an heir of the last Rulers of Phrae. This adds a cultural significance to the site, making it a place of interest not just for its spiritual and historical value, but also for its connection to Thai literature. Despite being hemmed in by surrounding buildings, the temple is worth visiting for its importance to Phrae. The location in the center of Phrae may make it a bit challenging to fully appreciate its attractions, but the experience it offers is nonetheless enriching.
