About Wat Phra Buddha Badh
The temple is a sight to behold, with its pristine and well-maintained surroundings. The tranquility of the place is palpable, especially on quieter days like Wednesdays. The temple is not just a place of worship, but also a place where one can contribute to its upkeep through donations. The architecture of the temple is a marvel in itself. The beauty of the structure is complemented by the serenity of the place. The temple also houses a souvenir shop, and the road leading to it from the main road is a four-lane wonder.
The temple holds a significant place in the hearts of Buddhists in Thailand. The Thai-Buddhism art that adorns the architecture and wall paint inside the temple is a sight to behold. It is a place worth visiting if one finds themselves in the area.
The temple is a peaceful haven that is easily accessible from Saraburi town. Despite its popularity, it is not overly crowded, even on weekends. For those without a car, there are tours available that include visits to other nearby places, such as Wat Phra Phuttachai.
The main Mondop of the temple is a must-see. The Phra Phutthabat temple, built in 1624 by King Songtham of Ayutthaya, is one of the six great royal temples of Thailand. The temple was built after a hunter found a large depression in a stone that resembled a huge footprint. The temple hosts a grand festival in July where flowers and candles are offered for Buddhist lend.
Wat Phra Putthabat is located approximately halfway between Saraburi and Lopburi, just a kilometer off Highway 1. The temple is easily identifiable with its impressive avenue leading to the Wat. The main temple is built around what is considered an exceptional example of a Buddha footprint. The temple is set on the side of a small hill, with a wide, gentle stairway leading to the terrace on which the pavilion is built. The area is landscaped and shady, with several small restaurants and good toilet facilities near the car park.
Wat Phra Phuthabat is a highly revered temple and is considered the number one pilgrimage temple in Thailand. The temple is adorned with intricately carved pieces and is situated quite high, with a small mountain immediately behind it. Climbing the steps to the top can be quite a task in the heat, but the view from the top is worth the effort.
