The Wat Sri Rong Mueang is a unique temple in Lampang, Thailand, that stands out for its distinctive Burmese style. This temple, built in 1905 by Burmese workers employed by British teak traders, is a testament to the influence of Burmese culture in northern Thailand. The architecture of the temple is unlike any other in the region, with its red, zinc-coated iron roofs that are narrower than those of Thai temples. The entrance to the compound is wide and grand, featuring a triple-tiered main gate.Inside the viharn, or the main hall of the temple, sit three Buddha images. The central one is very much in the Burmese style, further emphasizing the temple's cultural roots. The teakwood pillars of the temple are adorned with floral surface decorations made from tree sap and pieces of colored glass. The ceiling plaques also utilize the same decorative technique, adding to the temple's unique charm.
The temple is located in the city center, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy roads. The red tiered roof monastery, with its gilded motifs made of wood, is a sight to behold. The floor of the temple is also wooden, providing a cool sensation when walking barefoot. The temple's serene ambiance is further enhanced by the Buddha image, also in Burmese style.
