The overlook of the Mekong is a sight to behold. It's easy to miss this large overlook stop, but the massive gong, possibly the largest in Thailand or even the world, is a novelty that draws many in. The site also boasts an attractive white temple that bears a striking resemblance to the white temple in Chiang Rai. The views of the confluence of the Mekong and Mun Rivers, and across into Laos, are very pleasant and offer a serene experience.

This place is truly beautiful. Many have stumbled upon it on their way to the Mekong River hotel, captivated by the gleaming white towers of the temple in the sunlight. The sight of the huge gong is like something out of a fairytale. Visitors can spend a good hour walking around the site, taking in the lovely views of the Mekong and Mun Rivers. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the chance to go inside the temple, but the exterior and the surrounding views are well worth the visit.

The site is worth a quick detour if you're in the area. The special pagoda (chedi) and the magnificent view from the wat are the main attractions. The walk down to the ashes of the monk and the Buddha antechamber is also a nice experience. The large gong (rakang) at the entrance is particularly striking. The site itself may not have a particular charm, but it's worth a short stop if you're in the area, especially if you're going to Wat Sirindhorn Wararam or to see the two-color river viewpoint, which is just 5 minutes away.

This is a great place to stop before visiting the 2 colour river. There are plenty of food and drinks vendors around, and the temple is impressive and worth visiting. The site is beautiful and offers a unique experience.

The focal point of a visit to this wat are the views across the Mekong to Laos. Many have come at sunset and were very impressed. The wat is only around a ten-minute walk up a staircase from Khong Chiam town.

From Wat Tham Khuha Sawan (Monastery of the Heavenly Cave), you have a beautiful view of the confluence of the Mun and the Mekong Rivers, locally known as Maenam Song Si (two colours river). This points out the blending of the brown waters of the Mekong and the blue/green waters of the Mun. There is an elevated platform that can be reached by stairs, offering a great panorama. However, caution is advised as the handrail is missing. Additionally, don't forget to take the stairs down to reach the rock cave from which the temple derived its name.

Visiting this place with a friend to see the temple is a great idea. It's a very nice place to see over the Mekong River into Laos. To understand the reason for the temple, there are three wood benches overlooking the river. The story of the Buddhist Monk who lays to rest there is also worth learning about. This temple is a wonderful place to visit.
